The Offices of Academic Resource Center (ARC), Dean of Curriculum and Academic Engagement, and Counseling Services are offering a professional development training from Milestones Autism Resources. This opportunity is open to all interested faculty & staff who would like to learn effective strategies when working with college students on the autism spectrum.  The training will be given in a 3-hour block dedicated to general knowledge/cultural competency and classroom management for all faculty & staff. The training will utilize lecture, multimedia, interactive components, and a panel of autistic adults.  We encourage all faculty and staff to attend this training with the goal of better understanding, support, and services for our students on the spectrum as part of creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

Education for Faculty, Staff & Counselors:

  • Provide faculty with an understanding of autism and how it might present in the classroom and other common college settings
  • Delivery of evidence-based strategies for managing common challenges related to autism including communication and executive functioning
  • Provide education on how to be culturally competent when working with autistic individuals and how to learn and approach reasonable accommodations.
  • Connect to resources available for faculty to find support year-round

improves the lives of autistic individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals by educating, coaching, and connecting them to resources. Milestones envisions a community in which autistic individuals reach their full potential as integrated members of society, with their needs supported and their abilities, strengths and voices valued. Milestones services include an annual professional conference, coaching and consultation services for families, and agency consultations for individual clients as well as full-staff trainings. Services are provided by a team of consultants with expertise in early intervention, transition to adulthood, mental health, low-income and racially diverse populations, focusing on their intersection with autism spectrum disorders.
